MAGICAL ACTS - Media works by Lilli White

The work of Lili White (http://liliwhite.com) has been called “a magical act”. While studying painting she began making Super 8 films and her computer edited video work is a continuation of her exploration of the moving image.

Influenced by Renaissance art and Asian and American landscape painting, informed by Eastern philosophy and psychological theory her work has been exhibited in the United States, Germany, England and China. Cloudgate, an outdoor video projection ran in NY’s HOWL festival and Balloon Garden, now plays at Jersey City Museum during the summer of 2007.

Using repeated and stylized gestures as a mode of ritualistic format and screen performance, her modus operandi is often an exploration on the subject of relationships of power and repression; sometimes drawing from ancient stories re-contextualized into meditations on the world we live in and the ramifications of inaction and stagnation.

Her content highlights nature and spirit, myth, dreams, archetypal imagery, language, and the shared concerns of humanity; to express the idea that mind, body, and spirit co-exist and are always in search of balance.

"TEMPERATURES are a drum and bass duo from London. Taking cues from the likes of Sightings, they make metallic, instrumental music with restless energy- precisely militaristic, yet unrelentingly spazzy drums collide with humping bass rhythms and noise drones, to create something strangely hypnotic!" *Temperatures...
*...a hot stew of lo-end riffage, electronic noise and free-wheeling drumming.
